Clinics: University of Florida Health Physicians Clinics

UF Health has more than 40 different primary care clinics and specialty clinics that are operated by University of Florida faculty. Clinic activities are coordinated under the leadership of the medical director with support from an ambulatory care unit manager, clinical staff and clerical team members committed to the best in quality patient care.

Primary Care Clinics: University of Florida Health Physicians

University of Florida Health Physician primary care clinics, which include family practice as well as internal medicine clinics, care for a variety of patient populations from birth to elderly. They provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment, which is sometimes done through a resident-based clinic. The residents are supervised by University of Florida faculty physicians. A multidisciplinary team applies its knowledge and skill to provide medical care, health maintenance and preventive services to patients. For the patient’s convenience, some locations have a lab that is located on the premises.

The following procedures are examples of what may be performed in a primary care setting: flexible sigmoidoscopies, EKG – treadmill stress testing, acupuncture, colposcopy, minor  surgery, various cryotherapy, injection treatments and/or nerve blocks, routine physicals, minor surgery, circumcision, dermatology, stress tests, X-rays, Pap smears, urine analysis, quick strep A, glucose tests, vaccinations, minor surgery, shave biopsies and joint injections.

Specialty and Surgical Clinics: University of Florida Health Physicians

Specialty clinics include medical specialties’ clinics for adults and pediatrics as well as surgical specialty clinics. University of Florida Health Physicians’ specialty clinics provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment for a variety of adult and pediatric specialties within a comprehensive, resident-based clinic practice. A multidisciplinary team applies its knowledge and skills to achieving comprehensive medical care, health maintenance and preventive services. This team consists of physicians, nurse practitioners (ARNPs), physician’s assistants, dietitians, social services, practical nurses, patient care assistants, financial counselors and support staff. Referrals to all hospital services and outside agencies are coordinated as appropriate by the multidisciplinary team members.

  • Nursing care involves patient assessment, assisting physicians with patient procedures, administration of medications and patient education. Nursing staff are given yearly competencies, continuing education and training sessions throughout the year to stay updated on procedures, medications and therapy.
  • UFHP specialty clinics for both adults and pediatrics include pulmonary, rheumatology, immunology, gastroenterology, infectious disease, nephrology, post-renal transplant, liver failure and post-liver transplant, oncology, cardiology, dermatology, hematology and neurology.
  • UFHP surgical clinics include general surgery, orthopaedics, neurosurgery, ophthalmology, otolaryngology (ENT), cardiovascular and cardiothoracic, trauma, urology and plastic surgery.
